Perhaps hunters are on your trail or vampire enemies have tracked you down, perhaps a hapless visitor intrudes on your slumber. This will be dealt with at the start of each session. A<strong> spartan Lair </strong>just has the basics: a bed, a chair or two, perhaps a bookshelf and a couple of pictures. A<strong> crude Lair</strong> isn't really a human home at all: it's probably just got sheets or sacking to sleep under (or under) and a few crates for personal belongings.</div>  <div class="paragraph">Grandeur doesn't affect your Security Die directly, but your security cannot be higher than d6 if you are living in Grand conditions or d8 if you are living in Spartan. Staff are mortals who do tasks for you without realising what you are. <strong>Dedicated Staff </strong>work for you personally and you pay their wages: they are maids and butlers and chauffeurs. You cannot keep such staff once your Morality Die becomes a d10. Occasional Staff don't work for you directly; perhaps they come by weekly or service the building: they are cleaners, gardeners, landlords (OK landlords aren't 'staff' but they will fix things if you ask them). This also includes more regular staff who don't interact with you personally and who go in dread of you or people who don't realise they work for you (such as workers who carry out their business next to your Lair and protect and maintain you without realising it).. Make it with <strong>Advantage</strong> if you passed the last Wisdom test. If you fail this, lose 1d6HP, halved. If you have <strong>Resilience</strong>, deduct this from the damage but reduce you Resilience by that amount.<br /></div>  <div class="paragraph" style="text-align:center;"><em>Why is the damage halved? Because vampires always take half-damage from blunt force trauma (fists, clubs, motor collisions) - damage from cutting and piercing is normal.</em><br /></div>  <div class="paragraph">You can use your blood to <strong>heal </strong>HP (roll your HD, a d6 or maybe a d8 or d10, depending on your class) and/or <strong>restore all your Resilience</strong>. Decide which you want to do, then roll your <strong>Blood Die (1d4)</strong>: if you roll 1 or 2 you exhaust your blood (you no longer have a Blood Die and you are ravenously hungry). In the nearest doorway, a man in a heavy coat steps away from a younger man's embrace. You see his cigarette spark into light. "You said you'd pay!" the younger man pleads but this is met with a powerful back-handed smack that drops him to the floor. The older man inhales his cigarettes then throws the butt at the crumpled figure at his feet before stalking away.</em><br /></div></div>    </div></div></div><div style="clear:both;"></div></div></div>  <div class="paragraph"><ul><li>If you want to tend to the injured youth, make a <strong>INT</strong> test. If you succeed, you can clean up his face, noticing that the customer's heavy rings have torn his cheek and he will need stitches. The youth, <strong>Edgar Lavender</strong>, thanks you and tells you about a local nurse, <strong>Mauren Stott</strong>, who steals from the hospital to help street workers with their health. Add Maureen Stott and Edgar to the NPCs that you know.<br /></li></ul></div>  <div class="paragraph"><ul><li>If you want to feed from the youth, you have some choices:<br /></li></ul><ol><li>You can take a mouthful of blood, which satisfies you requirement to feed. Edgar will swoon and lie in the doorway, dazed. If you are <strong>Dracul</strong>, you can heal 1d8 HP this way (once per hour).</li><li>You can take a <strong>Blood Die</strong> from the youth. If you currently have no blood, this is what you <strong><em>must </em></strong>do. This leaves Edgar unconscious and deathly pale, but alive. If you have no blood, you now have a <strong>1d4 Blood Die</strong> again. If you had a d4 Blood Die already, your <strong>Blood Die increases from 1d4 to 1d6</strong>. However, if this boosts your Blood Die beyond its normal limit your veins swell and burst,<strong> causing you 1d6 damage</strong>. You could heal 1d6 damage using blood but this forces you to roll your new d6 Blood Die and on a 1 or 2 it exhausts back to being a d4 again.</li><li>You could kill the youth. You might do this if you are ravenously hungry (no Blood Die) and also want to boost your Blood Die up to a d4 and beyond to a d6. Going beyond your normal d4 bursts your veins, causing 1d6 damage, but you can heal by rolling your new six-sided Blood Die. Edgar dies.</li></ol></div>  <div class="paragraph" style="text-align:center;"><em>Most characters have a d4 as their normal Blood Die and suffer burst veins if they increase it to a d6. With the <strong>Efficient Digrstion</strong> Gift, your normal Blood Die is a d6 and you only suffer burst veins if you increase that to a d8.</em><br /></div>  <div class="paragraph">If you took a Blood Die from Edgar (option 2 or 3) you must make a <strong>Morality test</strong>. Roll your <strong>Morality Die (d6) </strong>and on a 1 or 2 it increases to a d8. That's a <strong><em>bad </em></strong>thing. You now have to feed every night but you do get +1<strong>STR </strong>in combat.<br /></div>  <div class="paragraph">If you killed Edgar (option 3) you must make a second Morality test. If you roll a 1 or 2, your Morality Die gets bigger. These men and women have a reputation for being busybodies or outright bullies.</em><br /></div></div>    </div></div></div><div style="clear:both;"></div></div></div>  <div class="paragraph">Make a <strong>CHA </strong>test to explain yourself to the Warden; if you are <strong>Lilim </strong>you do this with <strong>Advantage</strong>. If you succeed, you see that the Warden is an African gentleman, <strong>'Uncle Sam' Ekpenyon</strong>, and he is more concerned for your safety than with trying to harass you. Add Uncle Sam the Warden to the NPCs you know.<br /></div>  <div class="paragraph">If you failed the test, you need to get past the Warden in another way.<ol><li><strong>Flee: </strong>make a <strong>DEX </strong>test to run past the Warden and a <strong>STR </strong>test to outpace him; you automatically get away but if you failed either roll your next test will be at <strong>Disadvantage</strong></li><li><strong>Mesmerise:</strong> make a <strong>CHA </strong>test (with <strong>Advantage </strong>if you are <strong>Lilim</strong>) to silence Uncle Sam and slip past him.</li><li><strong>Might:</strong> Pick the Warden up and throw him across the street into an alley full of old boxes; <strong>roll your Might die </strong>(1d6 unless you took the Gift an extra time) and on a 1 or 2 it exhausts by one size (probably to 1d4). However, if you had to flee from the Warden and failed a roll you have lost this advantage.<br /></li><li>If you failed the <strong>WIS </strong>test or lost the advantage by fleeing from the Warden, you arrive after the door closes but you identyify which house the man entered.<br /></li><li>If you failed the <strong>WIS </strong>test <em><strong>and </strong></em>failed a roll while fleeing from the Warden, you arrive too late to see which house the mabn entered.<br /></li></ul></div>  <div class="paragraph">You can find the right house by knocking on doors and pretending to be a ARP Warden warning people that there's light showing through one of their windows. She points to an odd silver flask on the table.<br />"My Guv'nor has paid up front for it," the woman says.</em><br /><em>"Too bad," says the ring-wearing Spiv, "the price has just gone up, see?"</em><br /></div></div>    </div></div></div><div style="clear:both;"></div></div></div>  <div class="paragraph">Decide how you enter the house:<ul><li>Do you slip inside on the heels of the Spiv, in which case the pair inside are so absorbed in his wares they do not notice you until you act.</li><li>Do you arrive at a closed door but use <strong>Might </strong>to pull it open: roll your Might die to see if it exhausts (on a 1 or 2 it goes down a size and if already a d4 it stops working for the night, although you can restore it by rolling your Blood die). In this case, you overhear the exchange and then the lipstick lady opens the door.<br /></li></ul></div>  <div class="paragraph">You have several options for dealing with this pair:<ul><li>If the woman opens the door, you can <strong>Mesmerise </strong>her with a <strong>CHA </strong><strong>test at +1 </strong>(<strong>Lilim </strong>roll with <strong>Advantage</strong>) and walk in past her.<br /></li><li>If you broke down the door, the woman screams and retreats to a corner of the room.</li><li>If you assume a large, dangerous <strong>Totem Shape</strong>, the woman retreats&nbsp; as above. You must<strong> roll a Blood die</strong> when you transform (unless you are <strong>Enkidu </strong>and this is your first transformation this night)</li><li>If you want to talk your way in with your APR Warden cover story, you are hampered by not having the distinctive APR armband. The Spiv is <strong>Close </strong>so you can attack with fists or biting or a melee weapon: test your <strong>STR at +1</strong>. If you attack with a ranged weapon, test your <strong>DEX at +1 </strong>but you do so at <strong>Disadvantage </strong>being this close. A knife gives you two attacks; a pistol can be used to fire at +2 (less likely to hit) to get +2 damage. If you hit, roll your damage: it's based on your Blood House. The Spiv has <strong>1 point of Armour </strong>which is deducted from the first damage he is dealt. He has <strong>9HP</strong>.<br /></li><li>If you failed to win initiative, or if the Spiv survived your attack, Morris attacks with his silver-knuckled fists. Test <strong>STR at +1 </strong>to avoid his attack. If you fail, you take <strong>3 points of Killing Damage</strong>. It will kill him but you will gain a<strong> Blood Die</strong> (going from none to 1d4 or increasing from 1d4 to 1d6 but you will burst your veins if you go beyond your normal Blood Die in size). You must make a<strong> Morality Die test </strong>and <strong>increase </strong>your Morality die by one size if you roll 1 or 2. If you are <strong>Dracul </strong>and you haven't already fed, you heal 1d8 HP.<br /></li><li>You can try to save him by applying first aid. Test <strong>INT </strong>at <strong>Disadvantage </strong>unless you have a background in medicine. If you succeed, you stop his bleeding. Whether you succeed or not, you can test <strong>STR </strong>(or use <strong>Might</strong>) to carry Morris out of the house in search of help. If you know about <strong>Maureen Stott</strong>, you can take him to see her. If you fail to carry him out, Morris dies.<br /></li><li>If you know the Ritual of <strong>Chain the Thrall</strong>, you can feed Morris your blood. This will grant him +1HD, saving his life and making him your slave. You must <strong>roll your Blood Die</strong> (exhausting it on a 1 or 2) and <strong>pass a INT test at +1 penalty</strong> to the roll: <strong>Annunaki </strong>do not need to make a Blood Usage roll and may use either <strong>CHA </strong>or <strong>INT </strong>to cast the spell. To complete the Ritual you must exhaust your Blood Die, reducing it by one size, representing giving Morris your blood.
