NEW RACE: POOKA (Swamp Goblin)

POOKA (Pwca or 'Swamp Goblin')

Ability Score Requirements: Dexterity 7, Charisma 8
Ability Score Modifiers: Constitution -1, Dexterity +1
Class & Level Limitations: Assassin 7, Cleric 7, Fighter 5, Illusionist 9, Thief 12
Pookas are short (3 to 3½ feet tall) and resemble goblins, except for their moss green skin – hence their (pejorative) nickname. However, Pookas are not goblinoids, but rather Sylvan creatures akin to gnomes, albeit spindly rather than sturdy and disinclined to live underground. They live for over 250 years, barring accidents, but accidents are common for Pookas, who have a complicated relationship with Lady Luck (Rian Fowda, as they name their favourite goddess).

Roleplaying: Pookas are a marginalised people, distrusted by demi-humans (because they resemble goblins) but hated by goblinfolk. They have a travelling lifestyle, moving from camp to camp in swamps and woodlands and at the edges of towns and cities. To compensate for this distrust, Pookas make themselves immensely agreeable and friendly to all races and cultivate the skills of entertaining and negotiating. They are renowned as traders – but also as thieves and spies. They have a gnomish zest for life and curiosity, tempered by an eye to self-enrichment and opportunism.

POOKA RACIAL ABILITIES

Movement: Pookas have a speed of 20 feet per round.
Darkvision: Pookas can see in total darkness up to 30 feet
Gem Appraisal: Pookas may appraise gemstones or jewellery for gold piece value held in-hand (1 on d6). Roll failure results in a mis-evaluation (+/- 50% of true value)
Hiding: Pookas may hide outdoors if motionless and silent (1-5) or in shadows underground (1-2 on d6)
Luck’s Prodigy: Pookas have a bond to the power of Luck; once per day a Pooka can re-roll a die and choose the better result, but later that day the Maze Controller must ask the PC to re-roll a different die result and choose the worse result. [If the day ends without the bad luck being imposed, the Pooka ‘got away with good luck’ that day
Rubbery: Pookas are rubbery and can stretch their bodies in odd ways, freeing themselves from manacles or ropes or wriggling through portcullises or bars on a 1-2 on a d6 [cold iron or magically enchanted manacles or bars cancel this power].
Saving Throws: Pookas receive the following bonuses: Breath +4, Death +4, Stone +2, Wand +1, Spell +1
Armour Class Size Adjustment: When attacked by larger than medium-sized creatures (7 feet or taller), Pookas receive a +4 armour class bonus
Thief Skill Bonuses: Pooka thieves receive Pick Pockets +10%, Open Locks +5%, Find/Remove Traps +7%, Climb Walls -10%, Hide in Shadows +10
Languages: Pookas begin play with Boglisch (their dialect of Sylvan) and Common. They may select Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Goblin, or Squamid (the tongue of intelligent lizardfolk), if their Intelligence modifier allows.
Pooka Starting Age: Cleric (50+3d6), Fighter (45+3d6), Illusionist (60+3d4), Thief or Assassin (30+2d10).
