SCENARIOS

Scenarios

These are scenarios include some originally for D&D (5th edition, Original, Basic or 1st edition Advanced) that I've converted to Forge Out of Chaos.

BEYOND THE DOOR TO MONSTER MOUNTAIN

Zenopus Archives is an excellent blog supporting Basic (Holmesean) D&D. Zenopus posted this fantastic introductory dungeon in 2015 (along with its delightful Lego Heroica floorplan). The conversion to Forge writes itself. It works very well as an introductory dungeon for 2 or 3 PCs, providing them with enough loot to invest in their first spell components or metal armour and perhaps a magic item and a pet dog into the bargain.

THE TOWER OF ZENOPUS

This dungeon (under a ruined tower) was the sample dungeon included in the old 1977 Basic D&D set by Eric Holmes. It's a classic that still stands up and makes a great introduction to dungeon adventuring for new roleplayers. I've converted it to Forge and added a couple of flourishes like Wandering Monsters and NPC interactions to update it, as well as Brubo the Dingleman, based on my blog about Dungeon Constables.

THE GOLEM-MASTER'S WORKSHOP

Eldritch Fields is a blog site where Tamás Kisbali offers lots of great OSR material. This mini-dungeon follows a challenge format laid down by Tristan Tanner called "30 Minute Dungeon". It converts to Forge pretty easily: in fact, Forge's rules for locked doors come in handy here and Forge's SPTS make a simple mechanic for activating and deactivating Golems. It's a good introductory dungeon for 2-4 PCs with the potential to get out of hand.

A MIDWINTER NIGHT'S NIGHTMARE

This is a more complete version of the festive scenario that appeared on the Blog. This version expands the role of Morozko, clarifies the family relationships and features stats for Forge Out Of Chaos (including more details about the functions of the magic items for that rules set)..

THE VEMORA - EXPANDED

This is an expansion for Mark Kibbe's 1998 module for Forge, The Vemora, which develops the plague plotline, enhances the role of NPC Jacca Brone and the humanoid raiders and inserts the Cavasha into the dungeon. It includes corrected maps and a full conversion for D&D Holmes/BX/AD&D.

THE CONEY-CLIFF CRYPT

This is a conversion for Forge Out of Chaos of Karl McMichael's D&D scenario which won the January 2020 competition. This adaptation is set in Dunnerton (where The Vemora takes place) and includes Cricky Hitchcock's Svarts in place of Kobolds as NPC monsters.
