Competition for January
The January 2020 competition was won by Karl McMichael with his scenario The Coney-Cliff Crypt. I have converted the scenario to Forge Out of Chaos and Andrew Cook has formatted the scenario for D&D (5e/Homes/BX/AD&D).

The folks at Black Lion Games in Edinburgh cut me a sweet deal on a pair of near-mint copies of Forge Out Of Chaos. Think how long they have lain unloved in the discount boxes? Now I want to give them away. Time for a competition.
Design a 10-location mini-dungeon and send it to me before the end of January 2020.
This is inspired by the 30 Minute Dungeon Challenge over at Tristan Tanner's the Bogeyman's Cave blog. Tristan offers some intriguing limitations on the 30--minute dungeon design and a bunch of tables to inspire and/or challenge you, but for this competition you don't need to follow all those strictures (though you're welcome to).
The winning dungeon designer gets a copy of Forge Out of Chaos to add to their collection. I will post up the dungeon on the blog, GM it and review it. I'll also create a Forge-conversion and upload it onto the scenarios page.
Some guidelines:
|
Adjudication will be best on:
- Tight design: a dungeon with no waste, where all the locations have something important in them (not necessarily a fight or a treasure) and the whole thing hangs together effectively.
- Imagination: a dungeon with a strong idea behind it, something memorable or quirky or thematic
- Choices: a dungeon that invites the players to make important choices, either in the direction of travel, the use of resources or the interaction with each other or with NPCs
